Revealed: The Benefits of Raising Your Standards

Raising your standards simply means to ask for better in life. A better job, a better life partner, a better house and so on.
It’s a matter of demanding nothing but the best. This is not to be confused with covetous desire or keeping up with the Joneses. Raising your standards is all about living up to your full potential instead of being a cog in the machinery.

* You give your best
When you demand more of yourself, excellence is your default setting. It doesn’t matter what job you’re in, you’ll give it your all.
During the recent pandemic, we’ve seen more people than ever choosing not to work and instead receiving welfare for sitting at home, despite the fact that thousands of companies are hiring.
When your standards are high, you’ll have pride in yourself and know that you can do better than whiling your time away at home unproductively.
If you’re in a dead-end job that neither inspires you nor affords you a comfortable lifestyle, you do whatever is in your power to start your own business and be your own boss. Or you’ll level up your skills and find a better job.
You deserve better and you know it.

* You see yourself the way you wish to be
People with high standards see themselves as winners. You’ll notice that this is a common trait found in most top performers whether they’re Olympic athletes or hard-nosed businessmen.
They see themselves winning the gold or raking in the profits – even when they’ve not achieved anything yet. They believe they can, because they feel that they deserve it. And life often gives them what they ask for.

* You conduct yourself better
When your standards are high, you don’t fritter your time on trivialities. Your time and energy is precious and you harness them productively to achieve your goals. You conduct yourself better and success finds you.

* You have no time for time wasters
With high standards, your circle of friends will consist of positive people who are winners in their own right. Successful entrepreneurs hang out with other successful entrepreneurs. Athletes hang out with other athletes.
Successful people avoid the naysayers, haters, argumentative people on social media and other toxic people who sap their energy. There’s no return in that.
Your mental state must be positive and focused on what matters. You have no time for trivial issues because you ask more for yourself. Interactions should be entertaining, informative and even beneficial to your business.
Debating over politics or the latest media talking point which is designed to stir negative emotions is too low for you. Your standards are higher than that.

* Life gives you what you ask of it
In the Bible (Matthew 7:7), the verse states, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Whether you’re a Christian or of another religion or an atheist, this verse is profound and a principle of life. The higher your standards are, the more you’ll get out of life.
You won’t stop working and trying to improve your life. Your efforts will yield fruit and you’ll progress. For example, if you’re working a minimum wage job and making $15 an hour, your standards will make you uncomfortable earning a low wage.
You’ll study whatever you need to and work on improving your situation until you’re earning more. Over time, you’ll progress and one day, you’ll be earning triple or even quadruple what you used to make at the minimum wage job.
The same applies to other situations. If you’re 60 pounds overweight, high standards will mean that you clean up your diet, exercise daily and shed the pounds until you reach your ideal weight. If you have even higher standards, you may engage in weight training and build a toned, muscular body that turns heads.
There’s no limit as to how far you can go when your standards you hold yourself to are high.
As you improve in life through your own effort, you’ll develop a healthy sense of self-esteem and more confidence. Success breeds success. You’ll have better self-discipline… and this will translate into you achieving wins even faster.
This is why high-performance individuals keep winning. It’s almost as if they have the Midas touch. In reality, what they have are high standards which have caused them to have excellent habits and self-discipline which keeps them winning.
So, ask more of yourself and of life. You can transform your life if you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone and go after what you want without settling for less.

“Set high standards for yourself and don’t settle for anything less. You are the best judge of yourself and your capabilities.” – Tony Robbins

Practical Ways to Overcome Fear and Develop a Winning Mindset

There is no one on the planet who doesn’t fear something or another. So relax, you’re not alone. In fact, every child is born with 2 fears – the fear of heights and the fear of loud sounds.
Both of which are designed to protect us. Every other fear is subconsciously picked up. Fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of bankruptcy, fear of hard work, etc. are all fears that have been institutionally imposed upon us – either by our parents or the system we grow up in.
To truly achieve success in life, you must overcome your fears and act in spite of them.
As an entrepreneur, it can be both thrilling and scary to start your own business. If you start and fail, you’ll lose time and money. Not to mention, you might feel embarrassed.
If you don’t start, you’ll regret what could be. Your business may end up making 6 or 7 figures in a couple of years.
So now, you’re on the horns of a dilemma. What do you do?
Will you sacrifice the opportunity (which appears fortuitous) or will you approach your goals with vim and vigor?
If you’re fearful, you’ll decide to stay where you are and not risk anything. You’d rather cower and stagnate in your current situation.
If you’re bold and willing to take the risk, you’ll go all out to achieve your goals. Excellent! Like Babe Ruth said, “Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.”

* Action is everything
When you’re fearful, go ahead and act on your goals. Action dispels fear. There’s a quote by Dr. Steve Maraboli which emphasizes just how important action is…
“The universe doesn’t give you what you ask for with your thoughts – it gives you what you demand with your actions.” – Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

He’s absolutely right. You must act. Once you do, you’ll realize that a lot of your reprehension and fear disappears.
Your decision to start shines a light on the dark shadows in your mind and you’ll realize there was never a boogeyman out to get you. Fear is an illusion.
Your mind realizes that you’re not playing around. Until now, you were a spectator… but things have changed. You’re now a player.

* What’s the worst that could happen?
Paralysis by analysis is a very real thing. When you have a ton of fears, you’ll not take action to make your dreams come true.
Ask yourself what you’re afraid of. Write it all down. Go ahead… paint a worst-case scenario. Once you know what’s the worst that could happen, ask yourself how you’ll manage things should such a scenario happen.
Now that you have a contingency plan, go ahead and take calculated and logical action. Don’t take huge risks that you won’t be able to manage should things go wrong.
Proceed cautiously… but do proceed. Always remember, most of your fears will NEVER come true. But if you keep going, you will achieve your goals… and your dreams will come true.
You have control over that. So fear not.

* Have faith in yourself
Learn whatever you can. Practice hard. Work hard. Give yourself the best possible chance of success.
Instead of listening to the naysayers and the fearful voice in your head, seek the truth instead. Is there anyone else who achieved the same goals that you’re aiming for?
Most often, there will be. Just know that if they can do it, so can you.
Here’s the truth – the only way you’ll ever overcome fear is if you acknowledge it – then ignore it and act anyway.
Ignore the naysayers. Ignore the resistance within you. Ignore the possibilities of failure.
Go ahead with your goals and dreams and know in your heart that no matter what happens, you’ll give it your best. Avoid striving for perfection. Aim for excellence instead. This will help you stay motivated.
With a proclivity for hard work and action in the face of fear, you will attract success and achieve what most won’t – because fear holds them back. But now you know better.
Just act.

“Being brave isn’t the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear but finding a way through it.” – Bear Grylls

Overcome an Entitlement Mentality and Succeed in Business

All you need to do is get on social media to see how an entitlement mentality is creating a society of weaklings and overly-sensitive people. Someone who has an entitlement mindset believes that the world owes him a living.
Unfortunately, the education system in the US is fostering such a mindset. Students increasingly are led to believe that others need to cater to their sensitivities. Safe spaces with teddy bears have become the norm in campuses.
Participation trophies have led our youth to believe that everyone is a winner even if they don’t perform. This creates people who crave praise and reward even when they don’t expend any effort.
It creates an entitlement mentality where they think that their very existence deserves recognition. Very often, parents are to blame for this situation.
By spoiling their children and giving in to their whims and fancies, they lead their children to believe that the world will bend over to please them the moment they whine a little.
When these kids grow up, they discover the jarring truth that the world doesn’t really care about them. It’s sink or swim… and very often, these young adults sink into depression and despair, or become the disaffected in society who feel like the system is broken.
If you’re planning to become an entrepreneur, chances are that you do not have an entitlement mindset. However, the effects of our current society can have an impact on us.
Here are a few pointers to take note of…

* The real world is brutal
The harsh truth is that people while generally good by nature, tend to be selfish and look out for their own interests. This is natural and it ensures the survival of the species.
When you get into business, it’s imperative that you be aware of your competition. They’re not going to gladly accept you into their club and let you have a slice of the pie.
Instead, they’ll do whatever they can to put you out of business so that they can have a bigger share. If you have an entitlement mindset and expect them to be nice to you and encourage your business to grow, you’ll be in for a rude shock.
It’s a fight from the get-go. That’s how it will always be. So, be ready to lace up your gloves and go in punching.

* Life is not fair
This is obvious, and yet missed by millions. Life never deals everyone a fair hand. You get what you get and you best play your hand well. We don’t have the same starting points. We don’t even have the same races.
Expecting everyone to start off from the same point sounds good in theory, but life is not a track race. The hard truth is that some will have it harder than others.
Instead of waiting for the world to change and the authorities making things ‘fair’ for everyone, which could take decades or even centuries, it’s best that you do what Theodore Roosevelt suggested – “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

* You sabotaging your success
When you have an entitlement mindset, you expect others to help you succeed. You’re looking for a saviour. It could be your parents, boss or the government.
While you’re waiting for others to save you, your contemporaries who are success-oriented will be forging ahead. You’ll be losing time and ground. An entitlement mindset is holding you back.
Expecting society or the world to change just so that you have things easier is a recipe for failure in your life. You’ll be holding yourself back and denying yourself a truly fulfilling life. You must go after what you want in the face of all odds. The kite rises against the wind.

* It creates enmity and hostility
Get on Facebook and you’ll see that the most volatile and argumentative people are often those with an entitlement mindset. They expect others to toe the line and not offend anyone.
Everything is about race sensitivities, genders, pronouns, obscure books from some 18th century writer suddenly becoming offensive and so on. It has become a clown world where a horde of entitled people feel a need to get the world to behave in a way that pleases the hordes.
That’s not happening anytime soon. By having an entitled mindset, you’ll alienate many friends and family who find you insufferable.

* You’ll always lose in the long run
Last but not least, there is the way you think the world should be – and there is the way it currently is. While we should strive to always make things better, we shouldn’t stagnate waiting for things to change before we can act.
When you stop expecting others to help you succeed, you know that it’s all on you. Once you accept full responsibility for your life, you’ll discover a sense of freedom you never thought possible.
Your success is in your hands. The world will give you whatever you ask of it, if you’re willing to work hard, work smart, pay the price and keep going. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what your disadvantages are.
You still can win. There may be many things wrong with the world, but the set up will never change – prolonged effort in the face of pain and struggle will inevitably yield reward.

“You do not achieve anything without trouble, ever.” – Margaret Thatcher

Mindfulness: How to Use it To Achieve Success in Business

Mindfulness is a practice where we consciously pay attention to our thoughts and actions. It’s a way of focusing on our daily behavior which in turn will keep us focused and cognizant of what we’re doing.
In a world where most people function like automatons following a pre-set routine in a robotic manner, mindfulness is a fantastic way to make us live in the present. It keeps us grounded and aware of what we’re doing.
This practice has been used to aid in weight loss, reduce stress, improve concentration, prevent anxiety, discourage rumination and much more. As an entrepreneur, being mindful can help you achieve success faster in your business.
Here’s how it helps…

1. Watch your thoughts
When you’re mindful, you pay attention to the way you think. If a negative thought creeps in, you’ll ask yourself why you’re thinking this way. Are there any valid grounds for concern or is it just some perfunctory thoughts cooked up in your own mind?
By stepping outside yourself to ask these questions and monitoring your thinking, you’ll not get sucked into negativity. Whenever you’re feeling impatient, dejected or unhappy, mindfulness will make you question why you feel this way.
From here you can reframe your thoughts and be more positive. This will help you stay on track with your goals and you’ll not quit at the first sign of struggle.

2. Watch your actions
Mindfulness will make you ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing.
For example, if you run an online business selling gym equipment, you might be spending hours creating graphics that just don’t look good because you have no graphic design background. Yet, you’re still doing it because it’s what you used to do when you started.
Mindfulness will make you ask yourself why you’re wasting time doing work when it’s not a part of your skillset. You’d save a ton of time, hassle and frustration by just hiring someone from a freelancer site like Fiverr. For just a few dollars, they’ll do a much better job than you in a fraction of the time.
This is how mindfulness will help your business. It will make you think about what you’re doing. This aids in reducing waste, improving process and sets the tone for innovation.
One can even say that mindfulness is the antecedent to most profitable business. You can bet someone was thinking mindfully during the process of building the business and made the necessary changes where required.

3. Focus on breathing
Mindfulness will make you focus on your breathing while working. This will help keep you calm and also has many health benefits. When you’re healthier and calmer, you’ll be less likely to make erroneous decisions based on tumultuous emotions.
A stable mind and calm body will definitely help any entrepreneur function optimally. Mindfulness will help you achieve this.

4. Be where you are
These days, the ability to concentrate is becoming rarer than pandas in China. People now believe that multi-tasking is a sign of productivity. It’s not.
Then we have those who can’t do any focused work for more than 10 minutes without reaching for their mobile phone to check on their text messages, social media notifications and so on.
Distraction has become the order of the day, and such behavior has become entrenched in society. The remedy to this problem is mindfulness.
When you’re mindful, you’ll focus on your work at hand. You’ll pay attention to detail and if you’re about to mindlessly reach for your phone, mindfulness will stop you and make you ask yourself, “Why am I checking my phone when I should be working? Refocus, please.”
You’ll then get back on track without distracting yourself. Mindfulness is an excellent practice to employ if you wish to do deep focused work that will benefit your business. It will help you eliminate the distractions and improve your concentration.
The benefits of mindfulness cannot be overstated. Initially, it may feel strange to keep monitoring what you’re doing. But after a few weeks, you’ll sink into a peaceful rhythm and be very aware and present.
This is an excellent way to think and be… and most entrepreneurs will benefit from applying mindfulness to their life and business.

How to Use Affirmations Like a Motivational Guru

Affirmations may seem like new-age mumbo jumbo to cynical entrepreneurs. Many people used to have a similar belief about meditation, but now, millions of people have realized that meditation does have a plethora of benefits.
Similarly, one cannot deny that repeating affirmations daily has helped scores of people around the world to fix their self-esteem issues, correct negative thinking and achieve a mind that is success-oriented.
Motivational gurus keep espousing the power and efficacy of affirmations. Yet, as with all things, this too must be taken with a pinch of salt.

* Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it
Initially, it may seem strange standing in front of the mirror and repeating affirmations to yourself. But don’t give up on the practice yet. Keep at it for 3 weeks and see how it makes you feel. Within 21 days, you should feel a difference. Most people do.

* Your affirmations must…
RESONATE with you! This is the key part of making affirmations work. Instead of just repeating affirmations that others have written, go ahead and write one for yourself.
Keep it brief and use the present tense. For example, if you’re planning to quit your day job and start your own consulting business, you can repeat an affirmation such as, “I am making 25k a month with my successful consulting business!”
Now this is an affirmation that will stir your emotion and light a fire inside you. However, if you merely repeat an affirmation given to you by a motivational guru such as, “I am worthy of good things”, your mind will be in conflict with the affirmations.
Worthy… You? Really? What are the good things? A vasectomy?
The affirmation holds no meaning to you and it’s pointless to repeat affirmations just for the sake of it.

* How do you practice affirmations?
All you need to do is stand in front of the mirror and repeat the affirmations for 3 to 5 minutes. While a mirror is not a requirement, it helps to keep you focused. You can even high five yourself in the mirror when you’re done.
The 3-5 minutes is not a hard and fast rule. You only need to repeat the affirmations for as long as it takes to make you feel better. Sometimes when you’re feeling down, repeating an affirmation 3 times might be more than enough to elevate your mood and pick you up.
There’s no need to repeat affirmations ad nauseam. You’re not doing Wiccan chants.
Keep your affirmations dynamic, short and specific. Focus on your breathing while repeating the affirmations. Always try to say your affirmations out loud. There is immense power in the spoken word. And hearing yourself repeatedly sears the words into your subconscious mind.
Make sure you ‘feel’ the affirmations when you say them. This is very similar to visualization when trying to make the law of attraction work. You need feelings and emotions behind the action. If not, you’ll just be an automaton going through the motions.
Neither the visualization nor the affirmations will work. Feel them working in you and through you.

* Action still is king
All that said and done, always remember this – affirmations, visualization and other strategies that help make you feel better, are only one part of the equation – and not a very big part.
Ultimately, like Pablo Picasso said, “Action is the foundational key to all success.”
You could dispense with all affirmations and take massive action… and you’ll still see amazing results. Make no mistake about that.
However, using affirmations will give you an edge and help to lift your spirits up and increase your faith and belief in yourself. It will correct negative thinking and eliminate self-doubt. This can be priceless and help to accelerate your progress.
So, combine affirmations with visualization and take massive action to make your dreams a reality. If you persist, success will be yours.

“An affirmation opens the door. It’s a beginning point on the path to change.” – Louise L. Hay

How to Quickly Turn a Losing Mindset into a Winning One!

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” – Henry Ford

Winners think differently from losers. In fact, there are some people who may be reading this and thinking, “But we shouldn’t call people losers… right?”
Political correctness aside, there’s no denying the fact that there are some people who win at life, and there are those who lose. Unfortunately, the winners are in the minority, while the losers make up the masses.
Here’s what’s interesting…
Most people are their own worst enemies. Their mindset is working against them. This is often the result of ‘indoctrination’ when young by parents, teachers, etc.
Circumstances have an insidious effect on one’s beliefs too. This is why people who are born in poor neighborhoods struggle to see a better life for themselves. It’s almost as if the odds are stacked against them.
In reality, overcoming the physical obstacles is far easier than overcoming the mental obstacles that have been ingrained in our minds from an early age.
The key to turning a losing mindset into a winning one is to merely look at things from another angle. It seems simple in concept, but is immensely challenging in practice.
Thinking positively means breaking the old habit of thinking negatively. Guess what we do all day?
Yes, we think. The way we think is a habit too… and we’re experts at it. Changing things up WILL be met with resistance. Yet, it can be done.
As long as you practice your new way of thinking repeatedly, you can develop a winning mindset.
If you’re planning to start a business, the first step is to tell yourself, “It’s possible!”
This is something that motivational speaker, Les Brown, often mentions in his talks. Just telling yourself it’s possible, opens the door for you.
The next step is to acknowledge that the journey is difficult, but possible. You’ll still undertake it and keep going until you win.
Someone with a losing mindset will say it’s possible, but too difficult. And they’ll not get started. They’ve quit on themselves before they even started.
Winners see the gain. Losers see the pain. Which one are you?
Can you see the gain?
When the promise is clear, paying the price will be easy.
If you’re living in a small, dingy apartment that’s infested with cockroaches… and you’re in a bad neighborhood, can you see yourself living in a big house in a safe community?
Can you see it?
If you can, and you’re willing to pay the price and work your way up, you’ll endure the obstacles and pain that come your way. You want to make it happen for you, rather than just letting things happen to you.
A winner sees the problems and still says it’s possible. They know that they’re the captains of their own ships and will harness the prevailing winds and sail to favorable lands. They will change their direction, but never their goal.
A loser will say, “It’s just too difficult. This is where I was meant to be.” And he/she will blame everyone and everything else other than themselves.
The key to quickly going from a losing mindset to a winning one is to know…
“It’s possible!”
That’s it. Then look at it from a perspective of gain and possibilities. Embrace the struggle and know that one who wants to progress will make a step out of a stone.
Like they say, “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”
You can do it. It’s possible.

How to Organize Your Day for Success

There are 2 sides to success – the inexplicable side and the practical side.
Visualization, gratitude journaling, positive thinking and other practices that help you develop a success mindset is the ‘inexplicable’ side of things. It’s what separates the winners from the losers.
You can’t really put your finger on why these techniques work. Everyone just knows they do. It’s almost like some esoteric set up that must be followed for one to succeed. So, we give it our all to master our mindset.
That said, there’s also the practical side of success. This is the work we must do. The practice, the training, the learning, the testing, etc. With the practical side, we can quantify the different factors and components.
You must have a solid grasp of both the inexplicable side of success and the practical side of success. One of the core components of the practical side is organizing your day.
Our lives are made up of days. When our days are productive and in alignment with our goals, our lives will be fruitful and successful. As obvious as this is, so many people miss it and wing their days without much purpose.
In this article, you’ll discover a few ways to organize your day. There are no hard rules because we all have different lives and commitments. You’ll need to adjust the fundamental concepts to fit in with your life.

* How many days a week will you work?
The first step is to know how many days you’ll work. Some people prefer 5 days a week, while others will emulate God in the bible who worked 6 days and rested on the 7th.
There are no right or wrong answers here, but you must know how many days you’ll work. Always have a day to rest every week.

* How many hours will you work each day?
Someone with a day job might go through 8 hours of drudgery at the workplace and rush home to work on his side business for 3 hours. His time is limited.
On the other hand, a stay-at-home mom may have 6 hours a day to work on her blogging business.
What matters is that you have a good idea of how many hours a day you have to work on your business. You might even wish to wake up an hour earlier to give yourself more time to work.
You may also wish to stop engaging in leisure/social activities on weekdays so you have more time to work on your business. It’s all up to you. Just know that your sacrifices today will help you enjoy the benefits tomorrow.

* What are your important tasks?
Any business will require you to work on a few key tasks that make the difference. It could be testing your advertisements, making sales calls, writing content and so on. Whatever it is, these important tasks must get your full, undivided attention.
Write them all down on a piece of paper so you know exactly what you need to do.

* Create time blocks
Creating time blocks within the hours that you have is the best way to stay organized. Generally there are 3 blocks you’ll want to create…
1. Focus block
2. Recovery block
3. Maintenance block
During the focus block, you’ll do your most important tasks (which you wrote on the paper). Depending on the amount of time you have, your focus block may be anywhere from 90 minutes to 120 minutes.
Try and have a 20-minute break after each focus block. This is your recovery block. Have a glass of water. Get up from the seat and stretch and so on.
You may wish to use a tomato timer with timing presets so that you’re on track with your focus and recovery blocks.
The maintenance block is where you do admin-related tasks like clearing your emails and so on. If you can delegate these tasks, that’s even better. 30 minutes a day on admin tasks should more than suffice. You want most of your time and energy spent on the focus block.
This is how you organize your day. If you have a busy schedule, insert the blocks appropriately so that you can get the work done with as little hassle as possible.
It may take you a few days to figure out what works. But once you have a smooth routine, your day will be very well-organized and conducive for success in the long run.

“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.” – Benjamin Franklin

7 Mindset Shifts for new Entrepreneurs

7 Mindset Shifts for Online Marketing Beginners

Sometime back in October 2018, James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, tweeted, You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”

This quote is incredibly honest and valuable because it highlights a major problem that people face when trying to achieve success. While they may have hopes and dreams, even with effort, if their ‘systems’ are not in place, they’ll meet with failure more often than they need to.

In this article, we’ll look at why newbies to online marketing need ‘systems’ in place – and when we refer to systems here, we mean your mindset… which is your ‘operating system’.

Of course, systems could also mean the processes and tasks in your business.

But for this article, we’re focusing on how shifting your mindset will accelerate your marketing journey and allow you to succeed much sooner than most clueless beginners.

  1. Less is more

There’s a common belief that you need to keep learning and learning until you know just about everything pertaining to your business model… before you’ll take action. This is pointless and you’re only wasting your precious time.

In fact, an overwhelming amount of information is one of the major challenges encountered by newcomers. There’s just too much to process and remember.

To succeed online, your mantra should be, “Do! Do! Do!”

The road to online marketing success is paved with action and not intention - or learning. No matter how much you learn, you’ll still make mistakes. Experience is the best teacher.

If you begin any course/train, take a modular approach and do as you go along. Do NOT fear failure. Expect it. Because the more you fail, the more you’ll learn and that’s the only way to succeed.

You’re better off doing and getting past the learning curve as soon as you can.

Your takeaway here: Shift your mindset from learning to doing!

  1. Expecting fast results

Whichever business model you choose, whether it’s freelancing or affiliate marketing, it will inevitably take longer than you expect for you to see positive results (profit).

You’ll be building castles in the air if you’re expecting to make 5 figures a month in 2 weeks. This level of success is only attained by highly successful marketers who have been honing their skills for years. There’s no overnight success.

Far too often, beginners expect fast results and quick profits. They’re fooled by dodgy marketers who lie on sales pages promising them riches without work.

The reason these liars do this is because they know this approach will get them more sales from beginners who want fast money.

Unfortunately, there’s no fast money in business when you’re a beginner. Expect to work for at least 6 to 12 months on your side hustle before it starts making 4-5 figures a month.

Your takeaway: Be ready to commit for the long term.

  1. Forget blueprints

Another mistake that newbies often make is expecting a training course/program to give them ALL the answers they need. Even if a marketer tells you everything you need to do, you’ll still have to go through the process on your own.

There are so many variables at play that two beginners could go through the exact same actions and still not get the exact same results. A blueprint is like a roadmap to guide you… but the terrain can change. And it usually does.

You’ll need to navigate your journey on your own. There may be setbacks and obstacles that are unique to you. Overcoming them will determine if you succeed or fail.

This is why 100 people could get the same marketing course and only 2 succeed. They went through the ‘hard yards’ and figured things out on their own.

The marketing course would have helped them understand the lay of the land… but they persevered through the hiccups and unforeseen challenges on their own. This is the ONLY way to succeed.

Your takeaway: There is no blueprint with a 100% guarantee. Understand that buying a marketing course/training is just the beginning. You making it work is where the magic happens.

  1. Being penny wise pound foolish

It’s imperative to understand that while an online business might have lower start-up costs than a traditional brick-and-mortar store, there are still costs involved – both fixed and variable.

You’ll need to buy a domain, pay a monthly fee for an autoresponder and hosting, and other costs. If you’re using storage services such as Amazon S3, your costs will vary from month to month, depending on usage.

There are thousands of newbies who come online trying to build a business that will allow them to quit their day job – but they’ll try to do it as cheaply as they can.

They try to build their websites for free on other people’s platforms and domains.

They get a cheap self-hosted autoresponder, if they even get one at all. They try to cut corners and get the lowest priced (or free) stuff whenever possible.

There’s a Benjamin Franklin quote, "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten."

The newbie only finds this out when they lose their site because they were building their house on rented land. If you don’t own your site and have your own hosting, you’ll be subject to the whims and fancies of other people, since you’re playing in their sand box.

Similarly, if you use a cheap autoresponder with a one-time fee, you’ll soon discover that your emails have low deliverability rates and keep ending up in the spam folder, if they even get sent at all.

Your takeaway: Be willing to spend money on your business. While you don’t need to pay for the most expensive plans/products, it helps to build your online business on solid, reliable foundations.

  1. No man is an island

While there are marketers who are naturally introverts and may shy away from people in real life, even they will need to handle support emails, speak to affiliates, maybe engage with comments in their social media marketing and so on.

There’s an old African saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.”

That applies here too.

You’ll be able to get the technical aspects of your business such as site building, content creation, product creation, etc. done fast by working in solitude and ignoring the noise.

However, to scale your business, you’ll need to network and find affiliates. You may need to do joint ventures.

You’ll need to email your subscribers… and your email marketing must be friendly and personable. Even negotiating higher commission rates with merchants will require you to ‘socialize’.

So don’t make the mistake of assuming that you can do it all on your own.

Your takeaway: Be willing to reach out to other marketers and build a mutually beneficial relationship with them. It may seem like it’s outside your comfort zone, but the more you do it, the more naturally it’ll come to you.

  1. Play the long game

By now you’ll understand that to build a successful business, you need to be in the game for the long haul.

What does that mean?

It means maintaining a stellar reputation. Your reputation is EVERYTHING in this business. Once it’s lost, rebuilding it takes ages.

Too many marketers sell shoddy products just to make quick profits. They promote other people’s low-quality products for quick commissions. They send promotional emails to their subscribers several times a day and hammer their inboxes.

It’s all about making fast money at the expense of the customers. Nary a thought is given to how the customers/subscribers will feel.

Many beginners get sucked into this trap because they try and model the dodgy vendors they see. They assume that these supposedly successful marketers know what they’re doing.

They don’t. Not only does their approach reveal low EQ, but it also shows how myopic they are.

This hit and run approach coupled with a churn-and-burn email list will mean that they’re sacrificing thousands of dollars in repeat sales - in the long run.

Their work will be never-ending because they’re losing customers as fast as they come in. Don’t be like them.

Play the long game and treat your customers and subscribers with respect. You’ll make a lot more money in the long run from repeat sales, if your reputation is solid.

Your takeaway: Build a solid reputation and don’t resort to underhanded tactics just for quick profit. Sell/promote quality products which will impress your customers and be of value to them.

  1. Be adaptable

This is a difficult mindset to adopt because we’re all creatures of habit. However, the online landscape is in a constant state of flux. You must be adaptable or you’ll end up left behind.

Over the years, websites have had to become mobile responsive. They required SSL certs. Sales pages needed prominent disclaimers… and so on and so forth. All these are changes that marketers had to deal with.

Every change will require you to adapt – and this can be overwhelming to people who dislike change. Yet, change they must because that’s the nature of this business.

If people enjoy short form videos, you’ll need to make your videos short to tap into this audience.

If ChatGPT is making content creation a breeze, you can’t force yourself to do things the ‘old way’ or you’ll risk losing your competitive edge. You’ll need to learn how to use this tool and leverage it in your own business.

Being adaptable means having a growth mindset and being ready to learn new things and change with the times – quickly, if possible. This will help you stay on the cutting edge of trends while you maximize your profits.

Your takeaway: Be ready to change, adapt, and switch gears in your business where necessary. Don’t delay too long.

The 7 mindset shifts mentioned above will take time and mindfulness for you to adopt them.

But once you make them a part of your ‘system’, you’ll discover that running an online business becomes relatively easier and your business will level up and become much more profitable.

"The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change their future by merely changing their attitude." - Oprah Winfrey

How to Keep Your Business Organized and Geared Towards Success

“In business, organization is an absolute necessity, not an alternative.” – Larry Burkett

Keeping your business organized will help you achieve success faster because you’ll not be constantly wasting time and effort trying to make sense of a mess.
There’s nothing worse than sitting down to do focused work and realizing you don’t know where your notes are… or you can’t remember whether you replied an email or not.
Let’s look at a few ways you can keep your business organized…

1. Have a dedicated workspace
This is especially true if you’re working from home. Have a desk at a fixed spot (preferably isolated) and only work here. This will train your mind to be ready for work once you sit down at the desk… and your family members will know not to disturb you.

2. Make sure your workspace is tidy
Create a system where your work is organized. You may use files and folders. Or an online app to stay organized and so on. Whatever it is, you must know where things are so that you do not need to search.
When you’re working, you want to enter a state of flow. You can’t do that if you’re disorganized and your workflow becomes disjointed because your system is messy.

3. Declutter
Less is more, especially at your desk. Only keep what is necessary and what you use often in front of you. You may even wish to declutter the entire house if it helps you attain higher mental clarity.
You can also declutter digitally. Empty your email inboxes of all unnecessary emails. Unsubscribe from irrelevant newsletters. Have a tidy inbox that doesn’t overwhelm you.
Your computer desktop should only have a few items. Organize your folders and files so that you know exactly where everything is. Delete items you no longer need. If you’re worried that you might need them in future, then save them on an external hard drive.

4. Automate and delegate
Automate whatever tasks you can. This will mean less work you need to keep track of. Other tasks that can’t be automated can be delegated. You may wish to hire someone to help you… or if you’re running an online business, you can outsource your work to freelancers on sites like Fiverr or Upwork.
An important point to note: some tasks are crucial to your business and will require you to monitor and execute them.
For example, you may run a consulting business and have high paying clients who chat with you on the phone once a week. They’re paying you for your advice and time.
You wouldn’t want to hire someone else to do this job while you run off for a game of golf. Some tasks have your name written all over them – and you must do them yourself.

* Bookkeeping and taxes
If you won’t hire a professional to do them for you, make sure you do them yourself regularly. Don’t wait for the responsibilities to pile up and then start scrambling when there’s no time left. The IRS will not wait for you… but they’ll come for you though.
So stay organized in these areas.

* Your plan, goals and accountability
At the end of each day, check that you’ve completed the tasks on your to-do list and your actions are in alignment with your goals. It’s easy to miss the forest for the trees and end up spinning your wheels furiously but going nowhere.
Part of business organization is ensuring that your actions are geared towards success. Be aware of your goals constantly.
Another useful practice is to always plan the next day once you’ve finished your work today. Decide what you’ll do tomorrow and write it down in your planner. In this way, you can hit the ground running the next morning instead of planning.
Staying organized in your business will help you achieve success much faster and with less hassle and headache. Like Ralph Waldo Emerson used to say, “A good system shortens the goal.”
Stay organized and you’ll achieve success sooner than you thought possible.

How to Go From a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset

People who have a fixed mindset will inevitably slow their progress and sabotage their chances of success. Unfortunately, our education system churns out students who have a fixed mindset.
When we’re young, we believe that anything is possible. This is why you see kids wanting to be astronauts or movie stars. There are no limits in their minds. They have a growth mindset.
However, their parents or other adults tell them to be realistic and do what’s within the realm of possibility. Very often, this realm is limited and stifling. Children with a growth mindset end up becoming jaded adults with a fixed mindset who believe in limitations.
It’s no wonder society is filled with unhappy and unfulfilled individuals who feel like they’re not living a life of purpose. But they convince themselves that they’re responsible and doing the needful to pay the bills.

* Going from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset
In order to attain your goals and achieve success, it’s imperative that you work on your mindset and get it back to a growth mindset. While you may face resistance from yourself in the beginning (because even the way you think is a habit), with persistence you can change your mindset.
Once you have a growth mindset, you’ll be able to help yourself succeed in any endeavor you set your heart and mind to.

* Here’s what you change…
People with a fixed mindset avoid challenges. People with a growth mindset embrace them. If you want to grow, you must push yourself past your comfort zone. Forget what your teachers and parents told you.
Most of them probably had a fixed mindset too. You deserve better and you must be willing to push yourself to take on the challenge.
When you have a growth mindset, you’re willing to learn new things to help you progress. What you learn will be relevant to what you’re trying to achieve. You don’t have a distaste for learning because you know that success comes from effort.
Someone with a fixed mindset will believe that you’re either born with talent or you’re not, and usually they’ll believe that they don’t have what it takes. They’ll relegate ownership of their life to some mysterious set up in the universe which dealt them a bad hand.
Instead of learning new things, they’ll say they can’t do it. After all, why bother expending effort when they don’t have what it takes… and they’ll have very convincing reasons as to why they can’t do it.
Almost every reason will be an excuse that has no real truth to it. To succeed, you must be willing to learn.
Growth mindset people love reading or listening to success stories. Watching other people do well in life inspires them. You’ll often notice that successful people love talking about what they did to succeed. They want to share their experience with others so that everyone can enjoy success the way they have.
Fixed mindset people feel inferior when they see others succeed. As a result, they develop envy or have hateful things to say. It’s a coping mechanism for them.
If you wish to attract success, you must not detest successful people. You must desire what they have. Then the universe will work in your favor to reward you. Attract, not repel.
Whenever you’re on a quest to achieve a goal, you can bet it will be an uphill struggle. You’ll slip up now and then. You’ll fail here and there. It’s inevitable.
Someone with a growth mindset will accept the failures and use them as learning opportunities. They’ll find ways to correct their mistakes and overcome obstacles.
Fixed mindset people will internalize the setbacks and believe that they are failures. They’ll turn failure into a person rather than treating it as an event. They’ll then believe that it’s in their destiny to fail and they don’t have what it takes to succeed. So they quit.
Growth mindset people don’t mind negative feedback or criticism (even if it stings) because they use it to improve. Fixed mindset people take the brickbats personally and may retort or get angry.
It’s impossible to progress with a fixed mindset because your actions and responses will be dictated by your emotions. You’ll constantly be on an emotional rollercoaster during your journey to your goals. That makes it all tougher than it has to be. So, staying calm and collected is the best way to remedy the problem.
When you have a growth mindset, you believe that you can develop talent and experience to succeed. Even if it takes you time you’ll stay on course. When the going gets tough you’ll expend more effort and keep going. You’re in this to win.
By now you’ll realize that having a growth mindset can only help you whereas a fixed mindset will only hurt you. The good news is that you can make the change any time you want… including right now.
So decide to have an open mind, a positive approach to life and a growth mindset that entices success to heap itself on you. If you can do that, and anyone can, you will attain any goal you desire. It all starts with your mindset.
